The Federation Internationale des Vehicules Anciens (FIVA) fiva.org. is the 'ruling body' in the world of classic vehicles and in Cyprus it is represented by OKAK okak.or.cy. As a member of OKAK, Paphos Classic Vehicle Club is authorized to conduct vehicle inspections leading to the issuing of FIVA Identity Cards for Classic vehicles. The FIVA defininition of an historic vehicle is a mechanically propelled road vehicle which is at least 30 years old, preserved and maintained in a historically correct condition, not used as means of daily transport and is also a part of our technical and cultural heritage.
The purpose of these Identity cards is as follows:-
To document and safeguard motoring heritage for current and future generations and to provide owners with an accurate (but not infallible) independently reviewed and prepared document of the Historic Vehicle’s identity and history. To be used for authentication in FIVA EVENTS and by owners for their own purposes.
In Cyprus a vehicle possessing a FIVA ID card can be registered with the Department of Transport as an “Antique” vehicle which entitles the registered keeper to a discount of 65% on the annual “road tax” for the vehicle . There is also the option to only pay €25 road tax per year but this limits the days on which the vehicle can be used to weekends, public holidays and official car club events.
In addition, when a Classic vehicle is imported to Cyprus, the vehicle registration authority requires a certificate of authentication, which confirms that the vehicle is a genuine Classic, before the vehicle can be registered in Cyprus as a Classic or "antiqua". This letter of authentication is provided by our clubs Technical Team. Once the importing owner is in possession of this letter the vehicle can be registered with the authorities and issued with the appropriate registration plates. Completion of the application and the issuing of the FIVA ID card can then follow.
To arrange an Inspection, please call the Club’s Technical Team on 95 126311.
19 December 2018 ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE CYPRUS FEDERATION OF CLASSIC VEHICLES CFCV The Cyprus Federation of Classic Vehicles announces that on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, an Executive Committee sub-group under the President Mr. Totos Theodossiou, met with the Director of the Department of Road Transport Mr. Sotiris Kolettas to be informed about the most recent developments concerning the legislation on "Historic Vehicles". In particular, the Department of Road Transport has prepared a Bill entitled "Law Amending the Motor Vehicles and Traffic Licensing Laws of 1972 to (No. 2) of 2018, which includes a provision for the differentiation of the fees for the road tax of “Historic Vehicles ". The Federation was informed that, in addition to the current arrangement concerning the road tax of "Historic Vehicles", where a 65% discount is applied on the road tax fee calculated based on the engine volume, there is now a suggestion for a second option to be offered to the owners. In other words, an owner (in addition to the above option) may choose to pay € 25 per year for road tax, but he/she would be entitled to drive the car only on the following days: 1. On Saturdays and Sundays 2. January 1 3. January 6 4. March 25 5. April 1 6. May 1 7. August 15 8. October 1 9. October 28 10. December 24th 11. December 25th 12. December 26 13. Green (Clean) Monday (50 days before Orthodox Easter) 14. Easter Monday 15. Easter Tuesday 16. Pentecost (Cataclysm) 17. Regularity Rally days The Federation welcomes this new initiative, which will have a positive impact on the owners of "Historic Vehicles", since an alternative option for selective use of their vehicles would be offered, whereas now these cars are on SORN or the owners who wish to drive them have the only option of paying the existing fee. The proposed changes to the Legislation are in the House of Representatives for voting, they are a “Draft Bill”, so the Federation will expect the relevant developments and will inform the affected owners accordingly. We are at the disposal of owners of "Historic Vehicles" to exchange views on the proposed change and we are committed to examining the specific issues that will arise from its implementation.
